by  admin

Newcastle Vipers have signed Canadian winger Joel Irving for the forthcoming Elite League season.

The 32-year-old has prior experience of the Elite League with Sheffield Steelers and is buoyed by the prospect of returning to British ice hockey.

“I am delighted to have signed for the Vipers and look forward to building a legacy,” he said.

“Coach Rob Wilson has outlined his plans for next season and I am excited to be part of this set-up.”

Irving has played in the American NHL with Montreal Canadiens as well as enjoying extensive experience in US and Canadian hockey with a string of clubs including Johnstown Chiefs and Youngstown Steelhounds.

He is expected to make his Vipers debut in an exhibition game prior to the start of the new Elite League season.
